Wedding Gown Neckline Glossary
Looking to learn about the different types of wedding gown necklines our glossary is here to help.
- Off the Shoulder Neckline:
- This type of neckline sits below the shoulders. It accentuates your neck collarbone and shoulders. If you have a medium or large bust line this style neckline is extremely flattering.
- Portrait Neckline:
- This type of neckline is similar to an off the shoulder neckline. However instead of having a horizontal line there are two overlapping scoops coming down from each shoulder. If you have full arms and well defined collar bone this is a good choice.
- Sweetheart Neckline:
- This type of neckline looks like the top half of heart. It’s open and curved shape accentuates the décolletage and is perfect choice for women with larger bust lines. If you want to be more modest or lengthen the neckline try looking for sweetheart neckline with a lace covering. If you have a small bust line you should avoid this style neckline.
- Bateau or Sabrina Neckline:
- This neckline has single unbroken curve or swoop that runs from one shoulder to the other. You can find it with or without sleeves. This type of neckline is perfect for women with a smaller bust line.
- High or Halter Neckline:
- A halter neckline has two straps that wrap around the neck, with wide opening for the arms and shoulders. If you are tall and have broad well defined shoulders this is an excellent choice.
- Scoop Neckline:
- This neckline is a classic u shape and work on every figure type. It looks very dramatic if the scoop line is echoed on the back of the dress.
- Jewel or T-Shirt Neckline:
- This neckline has small curve and sits at the bottom of throat, and looks just like the neckline on a t-shirt.
- V Neckline:
- A V neckline has a deep often dramatic v shaped plunge in the bust line. The plunge is often repeated on the back for a dramatic attention grabbing look. This works well on women with a medium bust line.
- Strapless:
- This neckline has no material on the shoulders or sleeves. It works well on women who have well toned physique or larger bust line.
