In the same way that a bride has consider her physical characteristics when choosing a wedding gown a groom has to consider them when choosing his formal wear or tuxedo. While it has been said it’s hard to look bad in a tuxedo, you can make smart choices to look even better. The first thing to consider is body type is the groom tall and thin, tall and husky, or short and thin. Tall and thin grooms can make just about every tuxedo look good. Make sure the jacket has extra padding in the shoulders to give you a little more bulk and build that triangular shape. If you are looking to add a little more bulk consider a double breasted suit. Tall and husky grooms should opt for the classic shawl collar, try to stay away from too much padding in the shoulders and choose a single breasted suit. Make sure the trousers are rooms and don’t choose a thin bowtie, it will make your face look larger than it is. Short and thin grooms are looking to look a little more bulky and should consider a double breasted jacket. You can also get a similar look with a “peal” type collar. Short and stocky grooms want to lengthen the torso and appear thinner. They should stay away from double breasted tuxedos. Look for jackets with a shawl collar and stay away from small bowties and wingtip shirts. Another idea is to choose a vest over a cummerbund.
