Registering for Cookware

With the popularity of networks like Food TV gourmet cooking and cooking in general is becoming more and more popular. One of the more popular categories of items couples choose to add to a bridal registry is cookware. Cookware comes in two basic grades gourmet and everyday cookware.

Gourmet cookware is the higher grade of cookware and generally only used by people who enjoy cooking. The pans are bigger and heavier and can withstand more wear and tear. They have surfaces that heat up quickly and evenly. The highest quality cookware is made out of copper or aluminum. Aluminum is an excellent metal for conducting heat, however to prevent reactions with foods it must be anodized or coated with another metal. Anodized aluminum pans are the dark gray or black pots and pans. They are excellent for cooking in however the exterior surfaces show scratches, stains and other blemishes. For cookware that cooks just as well but has a slightly more aesthetic look many people choose aluminum pots that have been clad or wrapped in stainless steel. Stainless steel is very stain resistant and easy to clean, and the aluminum core keeps the heat distributed evenly.

For couples who don’t cook often everyday cookware is better option. These types of pots and pans are made of different materials and coated with enamel or other decorative finish. They are usually lightweight and are very easy for people to lift. While they don’t provide an optimal cooking surface they are very economical costing one half or one third of the price of gourmet cookware

When choosing cookware it’s often a better idea to choose a set over individual pieces. Sets come in a variety of configurations and include the most common and useful sizes. Don’t let the price of a gourmet cookware deter you from placing it on a registry, often guests will pool their money and chip in to buy you the higher priced set.
